Service & Social Justice are constitutive dimensions of the Gospel according to Catholic teaching. In other words, we cannot be a faithful Catholic unless we find ways to serve others, especially those who are least among us, most vulnerable and in need.
The Duke Catholic Center offers several ways to become involved in the greater Durham and North Carolina communities through outreach and service. The activities range in scope from helping to tutor elementary students at local schools to visiting senior citizens close to Duke's East Campus. Habitat for Humanity projects are an easy way to give back to Durham, with several work days scheduled each semester in surrounding neighborhoods. Domestic and international mission trips are offered during fall and spring breaks to projects in places like western North Carolina, Nicaragua, Jamaica, eastern Tennessee, New Orleans, and Guatemala.
