- Beach Weekend – Welcome Freshmen! Here at
Duke, we are lucky to have such a vibrant and extremely active Catholic
community -- and we would like to extend a special invitation to you to
come see what we’re all about! On September 11-13, 2009, the Duke Catholic Center will hold its annual Beach Weekend getaway. Beach Weekend
is an opportunity for you to meet fellow members of the Class of 2013 as
well as upperclassmen while relaxing at the beautiful beaches of North Carolina
at Salter Path. Throughout the weekend, you'll have the chance to reflect
on and discuss your first two weeks of college, learn about the Duke Catholic Center and the people involved in it, explore
your maturing faith and consider what role it will play in your life during
the coming years, and of course, have plenty of free time to swim, socialize,
or play in the waves and sand! Don’t miss this once a year opportunity. Contact Megan Weinand or Daniel Koverman. Sign up!

- Awakening – One of the most enriching spiritual experiences offered by the Duke Catholic community is the Awakening Retreat. This student led retreat is offered one weekend each semester. Running from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, Duke Awakening provides a wonderful opportunity to engage in a weekend of fellowship and faith-formation in an environment that is led by Duke undergraduates. This is an excellent opportunity to step away from the sometimes hectic pace of university life for fellowship, reflection and focus. A variety of undergraduate speakers discuss topics such as faith, what it means to be a Christian, resolution, commitment, and prayer, all through the context of their own experiences. More than 70 staffers and groups of 30-40 retreaters all come together to make this the premier spiritual retreat offered within the Duke Catholic Center. Duke Awakening #14 is March 26-28, 2010. For more information, contact Coordinator Kaitlyn Sanders or Student Director Sarah Brubaker. Cost of the retreat is $45 for retreaters, and $50 for staffers. Registration fee is nonrefundable.
